The imprint of trauma

Rarely are there moments as a humanitarian worker when we can find the energy, space and time to pause, reflect and make sense of our experiences and how they affect us. Often, we move quickly onto the next mission, or perhaps a new career without understanding how we have been impacted and changed.

However at one point, the past does catch up with us, because trauma is not just a event that took place in the past, it is also the imprint left by that experience on our mind, brain and body. Those imprints can fundamentally change the psychological and physiological processes in our brains and body.

The challenge in treatment, is not learning how terrible the past was, but learning how to gain mastery over our internal sensations and emotions. Trauma robs you of the feeling that you are in charge of yourself.

I work with clients to strengthen their inner resources in order that they can safely learn to tolerate and observe difficult emotions and sensations. I also develop strategies to help client learnt to regulation and mange intense emotions and feelings and self-sooth.

Ultimately, I aim is to help you recover the capacity to experience safety, relaxation and intimacy with yourself and others.
